a new life

Hello all!  Well it has been a while.  This mom thing takes some getting used to, it seems like since all Finn does at the moment is eat, look cute, sleep, eat, poop, look cute, sleep, pee, etc. I would have all kinds of time but no, instead I feel I have less than ever!  The good news is though that I finally feel I am getting the hang of it.  I think I had a problem for the first few weeks, baby blues or something.  I also lost a lot of blood during labor which made me anemic.  In reading more about anemia it can cause you to have symptoms similar to depression! Good to know!  My iron levels must be up or something though because this week has been great!  Finn is the cutest little thing (as you can see by the pictures).  He is smiling more everyday and starting to make little sounds.  Kev thinks his first words will be "no Dudley!".  Poor Duds is doing pretty well but he has a problem with barking at Finn, not nice to listen to and it scares Finn.  Don't worry though, we will not be sending Duds to the farm, he is getting better too, an adjustment for all.  A very sweet, adorable, and wanted adjustment though!

Right now Finn is actually sleeping peacefully on me in a Moby wrap (a fabric baby sling type thing).  I cannot say enough good things about baby wearing, look it up!  Finn loves it and so do I and it allows me to get a few things done!  It is really nice to be close to him too so I can kiss his sweet baby face whenever I want.

I feel great that I seem to be past the worried, stressed, weepy phase of new motherhood.  I am very thankful to have such a loving and understanding husband and darling little son.  Kev is having a great time being a dad and he is the best dad Finn could ever have.  He has been teaching Finn to run (by pumping his legs and saying "run run run run run"), he tickles him with is beard, and has fun talking to him and playing baby games.  I am sure they will have so much fun together when Finn is older playing every sport and game ever invented.

I have been playing games with Finn too, I kiss his feet and "eat" his baby toes, dance around and sing with him, rub noses with him, and many other silly things.  I have also been wearing him in a sling while I cook so I am sure he will grow up to cook delicious meals, mmmmmmmmm.

We are loving our new life with little Finksters.  It is fun to have an official little family, more to come soon, maybe even video!

P.S.  Thank you to all of our family and friends who have called, stopped by, sent gifts, sent love, and helped us out, we love you all!

Guest Blogger: Tia Susy

Hello to all from the Fletemeyer household! Since Carrie and Kev are both pretty busy being parents, they've invited me to do some guest writing on Finnablog this week (sorry Narnce, I know you had dibs but I got here first)

Finn sends his love, he is currently being rocked in his car seat by Kevin, who took him on a long walk through the neighborhood while Carrie and I went to buy an Arm's Reach Co-Sleeper. For those of you unfamiliar with a co-sleeper (I no longer fall into that category after doing extensive internet research yesterday), it is a bassinet that attaches to the parent's bed and has only three sides so that the baby and the mom can be closer while baby sleeps. Finn has had a few rough nights and Carrie, in order to preserve her sanity and get more than 2 hours of sleep, decided to try this nifty gadget. We just hooked it up and Carrie and I tested it out. Carrie laid on her bed and I crawled into the bassinet and she soothed me to sleep - just kidding! I am far too large for that.

Things Finn did today that were cute

1. Everything.

Things Finn did today that were not cute

1. Nothing

In my completely unbiased opinion, Finn is one of the cutest babies ever. Also one of the largest - and that's just true, it's not an opinion. Although I think because he's tall he carries his weight well.

But seriously... I've been here since Monday evening, I took the bus from Chicago to spend some quality time with my sobrino (that's Spanish for nephew) - About an hour before I left I went to the Art Museum gift shop to get Finn a little something something because all weekend I had been meaning to buy him a gift but I never got a chance. I only had like 10 minutes and nothing appealed to me until, lo and behold, on prominent display was a children's book called "Finn Throws a Fit". What, I ask you, are the odds? It was destiny. And not only is it about a boy called Finn, because that alone was enough for me to buy it, but it has adorable illustrations. I include a photo of the cover so you will have an idea.

Isn't it adorable? Yes. When you come visit him you can read it. Today Kevin, who is proving to be an excellent dad, read it to him. And guess what, Finn learned to read! Yes folks, this baby is a genius.

I feel really blessed to be able to spend this time with them, I know Finn will only be this little for the blink of an eye, and it's wonderful to be a part of it. Carrie and Kev are doing an awesome job - having a newborn is hard work! The past few days Carrie and I haven't even gotten dressed until mid afternoon. I really don't know where the time goes, but by the time you've fed him and burped him and watched him be adorable and rocked him to sleep and do it all over again a few times, the day is gone. It's a lot of work, but of course it's worth it. He's a little miracle in a tiny hat. And we love him.

We know you've been dying for more photos, so I've been taking lots. Enjoy!

Aunt Susy and Finn meet for the first time - love at first sight!

Carrie in her ninja wrap - it's actually called a Moby Wrap and it's so she can carry Finn around and still have her hands free. It's a little tricky at first but once they get used to it Finn will be riding in style

The "F" is for Fantastically cute

The other picture of him bathing was too risque for the interwebs.

No shirt, no shoes, no problem.

 Go Bucks! and Monkeys
 he loves his mama
 don't cry little finny
Grandma drove a long way just to hang out for a few hours - We love her!

mama fletemeyer, papa fletemeyer, and all the little fletemeyers
According to Aunt Kiki, Finn looks good in "jewel tones"

Thanks Uncle Max and Aunt Elisabeth for the awesome crib!

 Happy little family :)

Tia Susy signing off for now - much love to all!

Finn's first 10 days

Hello all! Here are some pictures of Finn's first 10 days, we cannot believe he is already 10 days old!  We are having so much fun with him, he is a sweet little happy baby that we enjoy getting to know more and more each day.  It is amazing how he can do a little something more every day and he changes all the time.

It is definitely an adjustment going from no baby to newborn and while I cannot say that every day has been easy, I can say that every day is a pleasure that I will cherish for the rest of my life.  We are just trying to take in each moment and enjoy them because you can already tell that babies really do grow so quickly and Finn will only have one day like today. Yesterday was different and tomorrow will be too, we are just savoring each moment with our little boy.

Finn has enjoyed lots of company too!  He has met both sets of Grandparents,  Great Grandma, Great Aunt (Super as she says), his Aunt Holly, Uncle Justin, his cousin/aunt/buddy Nancy, and some Indiana friends too!  He is a popular little boy.  He has had lots of time with his Grandma McKibben, she has been here helping since he was born.  I would HIGHLY recommend help after baby, it has been amazing to have my mom here!  I cannot thank her enough for helping this last week, thanks mom, I love you!

And lucky us, Grandma/Nini Fletemeyer is coming tomorrow to help for another week, yeah!  Finn is a lucky guy and Kevin and I are blessed to have such wonderful families.

Thank you all for your well wishes, we are loving every minute of our new life, it is crazy, wonderful, hard, full of wonder, new challenges, new family, and most of all.... full of love.

Finn meets World!

Hello all!  Finn was born Thursday, Sept 30th at 7:05am.  He was 10lbs - 6oz, and very handsome!  Carrie and Finn are healthy and doing well.  We will post more soon, but wanted to get a few pics on the blog.

Finn just after getting cleaned up... he has a set of lungs on him!

Mom and Finn... look at his chubby little cheeks!  He's a healthy boy!

This is calm & peaceful Finn, Day 2.  Grandma McKibben loves her very first grand baby!

Papa Fletemeyer and his newest grandson... I think Finn got the Fletemeyer jowls!

And Grandpa McKibben holding his first grand baby... and Finn's middle-namesake!

Until our next post, peace out from the Finn and his proud parents!
